Business Career:
\n<\/span><\/b>Ian commenced his career at Old Mutual, the largest life insurer in South Africa in 1990. He started in the property division and ended up in Old Mutual Asset Management (now called Omigsa) as the investment analyst tasked with covering the listed property sector across South Africa.\u00a0 This enabled him to gain invaluable knowledge of the property market and major companies operating therein. He was on first name terms with all the CEO\u2019s of the listed property companies.<\/p>\n

Ian was headhunted from Old Mutual in 1992 and joined a small development company. In 1993 they took over the property division of BOE Bank Limited which included a property loan stock vehicle listed on the JSE that was to become Atlas Properties Limited.<\/p>\n

Over the next 14 years through acquisitions and developments the company grew to become a R1.5 billion business. Highlights included taking over the Cape Municipal Pension Fund portfolio, acquiring the listed company Advent Limited, and being the first South African property company to sell the management company into Atlas which aligned shareholder interests with management.<\/p>\n

Atlas was the equivalent structure of a US Reit with a focus on retail and commercial property. What made Atlas unique was that the directors and management controlled approximately 60% of the stock. This enabled it to have a very strong focus on achieving sustainable earnings growth as the primary goal.\u00a0 Whilst many competitors were focused on growth in terms of size, our focus enabled the company to outperform, which in turn led to Atlas being one of the top performing companies on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Atlas was ranked 19th<\/sup> out of the Top 100 Companies in South Africa by the influential Business Times. The ranking was due to the total returns to shareholders achieved over a ten year period.\u00a0 In 2007 the company was also ranked 14th<\/sup> in terms of total returns over a 12 month period.<\/p>\n

Ian was appointed CEO and Managing Director in 2000 and held the position for seven years. During the period he was involved in developments worth billions of Rands.\u00a0 Ian has extensive development experience in retail, commercial, residential and retirement villages. Ian was one of the founding members of the Association of Property Loan Stocks and chaired the portfolio of Tax and Accounting.<\/p>\n

In the second half of 2007 Atlas was sold to another fund called Acucap Limited. Ian decided not to remain involved and resigned to form Lemanco. He was joined by Lester Coelen the ex financial director of Atlas. Lester has subsequently retired and Pieter Raubenheimer (Ian’s brother) joined Lemanco.<\/p>\n

Lemanco is a development and investment company and is involved in the development of retirement villages, shopping centres, commercial developments as well as housing developments.<\/p>\n

It operates nationally both with and without investment partners \/ outside shareholders.<\/p>\n

Lemanco is currently involved in developments with a value of close to R 2 billion on completion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
